the Summer that was

These shots illustrate perfectly the hot and dry Summer we have just had. I have never seen the place so stressed nor  so beautiful. These 'reality' elements have been shunned by most garden makers historically in Australia in the pursuit of 'green' and plump. (read pumped with added water) Now what was that poem..."I love a sunburnt country......." I almost want to stop all pretense of gardening..this above is IT!

  1. Fantastic colors, shapes, implied action.

  2. Yes, it is 'it', Billy. The reality is it's not a lush sense of garden we're dealing with, but a hard place, and a hard place that can get harder.
The bare bones, huh? We forget, don't we, that gardening isn't necessarily done by us, but is taken over by nature? We're only intermediaries.

  3. Faisal I don't regard it as a hard place at all..I suppose compared to the pampered 'soft' garden that was regarded as 'traditional' here sure...but I get almost no pleasure out of 'pumped' up landscapes..they are a little like Acland street cakes..look great but by and large taste bloody awful!!
